Modern Technology and Equipment | Blackburn Dentist

Our Technology

All of our treatment products and equipment have been carefully selected to exceed the industry standard and to ensure we deliver the highest quality dental care.

Magnifying loupes

Teeth are incredibly small and our job involves working to millimetre-perfect precision in a tiny, confined, dark space (your mouth). To help us achieve a high level of detail in every dental treatment we perform, all of our procedures are done under magnification.

Kavo Dental Chair

Our dental chairs are designed and constructed in Germany. For decades, Kavo has been the worldwide industry leader in dental equipment. At Whitehorse Dental in Blackburn, it is important to us to have a dental unit that is able to perform both simple and complex dental treatments with a high level of finesse. The upholstery is also designed to provide support to key areas of the spine and ensure maximum comfort for our patients.

Digital x-rays

Digital x-rays for teeth are fast becoming the industry standard in dentistry. They provide a high quality image with a lower dose of radiation. We have selected the latest digital sensor design, which is also the thinnest on the market. This provides added comfort for dental patients who may have a sensitive gag reflex. They are essential to screen for tooth decay, teeth infections, dental erosion, enamel wear and poorly fitting fillings. Digital x-rays are also much better for the environment, as they eliminate the use of harmful chemicals during development of the films.

On-site digital OPG

An OPG is a two-dimensional x-ray of the upper and lower jaws from ear to ear. It is used to screen for bone loss associated with gum disease, tooth decay, impacted wisdom teeth, oral cancer screening, the presence of adult teeth, missing teeth or extra teeth, and arthritis of the jaw joints.

The Australian Dental Association recommends OPGs to be taken for all new dental patients, and then routinely every five to seven years. Our state-of-the-art OPG machine takes an image of your teeth using the lowest amount of radiation possible.

Digital photography

We use digital photography to not only keep a record of your teeth, but also to help educate you on your dental health. It’s important to us that you have a good understanding of what’s going on in your mouth so you can make informed decisions on your dental treatment choices.

Cutting edge local laboratories

At Whitehorse Dental, we’ve made a commitment to use only Australian laboratories. All of our prosthetic work (crowns, bridges, veneers, implants, dentures, mouthguards, false teeth) is custom made for you in high quality dental labs based in Victoria. Our specialised dentists have meticulously handpicked our laboratories to allow us to work with the top dental technicians in the field. We stand by our quality work and if there is a mechanical failure in any of our prosthetic work within the first three years, we will replace it free of charge.

All of our instruments are sterilised before each use and we adhere strictly to infection control standards set out by the Australian Dental Association.
