刷牙太频繁:是个问题!

Sometimes the more the better is not a good thing. On the subject of brushing teeth, unexpectedly, more is not really better.

Our daily brushing habits are an important part of oral health. However, we have noticed that excessive brushing habits have caused non-negligible damage to the teeth.

People always have the notion that the longer you brush your teeth, the cleaner your teeth will be. Unfortunately, this notion is wrong.

How often does brushing equal to overdoing?

Brushing your teeth for more than 2 minutes can damage your gums and cause them to recede.

We have also seen patients brush their teeth for up to 15 minutes! They simply don’t realize that their actions are damaging and eroding their teeth and gums.

Brushing too long can weaken your tooth enamel. Once the enamel is damaged, it cannot be restored.

In severe cases, excessive brushing can even wear down the roots of the teeth.

Toothbrushes can wear down your teeth, not for nothing; unfortunately, at our dental practice in Blackburn, we see a lot of these cases.

Common symptoms of excessive brushing

  • Teeth are very sensitive and painful when exposed to cold drinks
  • Long-term use of a toothbrush with a medium hardness or higher can cause damage to the enamel

A simple oral exam can tell if your symptoms are rooted in excessive brushing. You are welcome to book online .

How long does it take to brush your teeth ?

As your professional dentist, we recommend that you brush as little as possible. That’s right! You heard that right.

It only takes a simple 2 minutes to achieve an effective cleaning effect.

2 minutes of brushing time is enough to achieve the cleaning effect. Keeping the teeth clean cannot be done by brushing alone. Because the place where the most dirt is hidden is often in the deepest spaces between your teeth.

No matter how long you brush your teeth, or use the most advanced cleaning tools, there are some tiny crevices you can’t reach.

Instead, we recommend that you use a professional interdental brush to clean between your teeth before brushing. Interdental brushes can effectively clean the dirt hidden in the teeth. Plus, it’s so much easier to use than flossing !

When brushing your teeth, please do not use excessive force for more than 2 minutes.

Combining cleaning with an interdental brush, we believe it will result in more effective cleaning and better care for your gum and enamel health.

What is the best way to brush your teeth?

Optimizing your brushing style saves time and is very easy and effective.

  • Brush your teeth twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime
  • Use an interdental brush to clean between your teeth before brushing at night, once a day
  • Only 2 minutes per brushing
