Has your smile lost its lustre? Teeth whitening is a safe and effective way of brightening your smile. When performed on healthy teeth, whitening does not damage or weaken the tooth enamel in any way.
We use two methods for whitening teeth:
In-office teeth whitening
Helps with: quick teeth whitening
Performed in the dental chair using a strong whitening product that is activated by a light. This procedure takes 60 to 90 minutes and while it delivers instant results, many whitening patients find their teeth are extremely sensitive during and after the treatment. We have also found that the white result is not as long lasting. As such, we would only recommend this method if patients want to have white teeth for a particular event (for example a wedding) but are happy for the shade to fade quickly afterwards.
Custom tray home whitening
Helps with: longer lasting teeth whitening
We believe that take home whitening with custom made trays are the best way to whiten your teeth. This method requires you to wear clear, custom made trays with whitening gel inside. The custom trays fit your teeth like a second skin and patients often forget they are wearing them! These trays are worn overnight while you sleep and takes roughly 3 weeks.
Take home whitening with custom made trays is the most comfortable and long lasting way to whiten teeth. The gel is milder and you are in control of when you want to whiten and how bright you want your teeth to be. Because the gel has plenty of time to create a chemical reaction within the tooth enamel, the result is very long lasting. We have found that results last for years. You may experience some temporary mild sensitivity during the whitening process but this will go away once the treatment is completed.
Teeth whitening we DON’T recommend
Our dentists have noticed a lot of worrying information going around about natural teeth whitening products and at-home teeth whitening solutions. While well intentioned, these products can have a detrimental effect on your teeth.
At our dental clinic, we’ve seen many patients who have unknowingly stripped their teeth of its protective enamel by using incorrect teeth whitening products. Without tooth enamel, your teeth are at an extremely high risk of decay and you’ll experience a lifetime of sensitive teeth.
We strongly urge you NOT to use these products for teeth whitening:
- Lemon juice
- Bicarb soda
- Apple cider vinegar
- Activated charcoal powder or toothpaste of any sort
- Whitening toothpastes
- Over the counter At-home teeth whitening kits
